Oper8 Staff Celebrate Certification Success

It is always the case that a growing Learning Organisation needs highly engaged trained and capable staff. Oper8 understands the key principles behind hiring for Skills, Knowledge, Attitude and Behaviour and as such is pleased to share that two members of staff recently gained nShield Certified Systems Engineer (nCSE – Thales) status.

Michael Sheppard, (Technical Services Manager) and Alexis Klestov (Technical Support Engineer) were successful in attaining this important certification which develops the knowledge and practical skill needed to set up, deploy, and maintain nShield Hardware Security Modules (HSMs). The Oper8 team is now capable of maximising the value of these devices for customers.

The certification was designed for system administrators and covered principles of cryptography and the role played by the nShield family of general-purpose HSMs and the Security World architecture in securing sensitive and high-value data.

Thales has an enviable reputation in the field of data protection and cyber security, with over 40 years’ experience. Oper8 are proud Service Provider Partners with Thales and the work that we do with Thales which covers a range of purposes surrounding gaining compliance with:

  • GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) – Perhaps the most comprehensive data privacy standard to date, the GDPR presents a significant challenge for organizations that process the personal data of EU citizens – regardless of where the organisation is headquartered.
  • Payment Gateway Protection (PCI-DSS) – Merchants, banks, and other parties that play a role in processing credit and debit card payments must protect the privacy of account data—both to meet core business goals and to fulfill obligations under the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). PCI-DSS defines strict compliance requirements for the processing, storage, and transmission of account data. PCI DSS compliance must be validated periodically, and failure to comply can result in fines or even the termination of the ability to process credit cards.
  • Australian Privacy Amendment/Data Breach Notification – Thales e-Security’s Vormetric Data Security Platform and nShield Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) provide the tools you need to help prevent data breaches. Should a breach occur, Thales can, by encrypting your sensitive data, help save you from a public breach notification.
  • Data Residency – With more than 100 national data privacy laws on the books as of the end of 2016 (including the landmark GDPR in Europe), any global enterprise, SaaS vendor or cloud solution provider needs to pay attention to how data residency requirements for data-at-rest can be met within their environment.

Combined with Oper8 storage and cloud services deployed through Stulz Enabled by Oper8 MicroDCs, our customers can deploy data protection strategies across their data centre and cloud service architectures.

Our thanks go out to both Michael and Alexis for their dedication and drive in participating and gaining nCSE – Thales certification.
